Mick Jagger, 81, leaves fans gobsmacked as they spot distracting detail during Oscars appearance

Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger sparked a wave of reaction from those tuned into Sunday night’s Oscars awards.

Making a surprise appearance at the 97th Annual Academy Awards, 81-year-old Jagger took to the stage to present the award for Best Original Song – which was awarded to Emilia Perez for El Mal.

The Kent-born singer had fans applauding as he rushed to the stage, blowing kisses at the star-studded audience who soon broke into a standing ovation.

“My goodness. I’m greatly honored to be invited to give this award for the best original song tonight,” Jagger began as the applause eventually died down.

He continued: “And as much as I love doing it, I wasn’t the first choice to give this award out.

“The producers really wanted Bob Dylan to do this. Bob didn’t want to do it, because he said the best songs this year were obviously in the movie A Complete Unknown.

“Bob said, ‘You should find somebody younger,’ [and] I said, ‘Okay, I’m younger!'”

Joking about the American singer-songwriter, 83, Jagger went on: “I’m younger, I’ll do it. So here I am. And here are the nominees for Best Original Song.”

Following his brief appearance at the annual event, fans began to note how Jagger is only one year younger than former US President Joe Biden, and applauded his energy.

Taking to X, one viewer penned: “Mick Jagger at the #Oscars2025? Proof that rock stars don’t age, they just get better at stealing the show! #Oscars #Oscar.”

“Joe Biden is a year older than Mick Jagger. Mick walked on stage like he was 25 years old. WTF?” another shared.

Someone else posted: “Mick Jagger is 81 years old,” along with a Gif that read: “He looks amazing”.

“Mick Jagger looking good at 81 probably [dyes] his hair but walks and talks good,” another praised.

“For reasons unknown, Mick Jagger (81) looks better than Adrien Brody (51),” a different fan commented.

Another added: “Hard to believe that Mick Jagger is 81 years old, he looks amazing and will forever have the ‘it’ factor. #Oscars2025.” (sic)

The awards sparked plenty of other responses throughout the night, with James Bond fans also taking to social media to blast a “pointless” tribute.

Many complained about a controversial James Bond tribute during the ceremony, with viewers labelling it “bizarre” and “pointless”.

The segment featured performances by Lisa, Doja Cat and Raye singing iconic Bond themes, with Margaret Qualley opening with a dance routine.

The tribute came just one week after Amazon acquired the rights to the 007 franchise.

Many questioned the timing and purpose of the extended musical interlude, with no new Bond film in production.
