
Amanda Owen, 50, shares new update on son Sydney, 13, after candid homeschooling decision: ‘See all kinds of things’
Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen has shared an update about her son, Sydney, not long after announcing her decision to homeschool the 13-year-old.
The mother-of-nine recently shared how her teenage son no longer goes to school so he can split his time between working on the farm and doing schoolwork.
On Thursday, the Yorkshire Shepherdess, 50, gave a glimpse into the budding farmer’s routine as she advertised The Week Junior, a children’s magazine.
Owen shared a clip of herself and Sydney sat in a vehicle as she explained: “So we’re here, out and about, me and Sydney.
“And we’re out feeding our sheep and you what? Time spent looking for and watching your sheep is not time wasted.”
Turning the camera to the field full of curious animals, she added: “Because you see all kinds of things.
“Usually problems, but hey. Anyway, whilst doing that, Sydney is reading The Week Junior. It’s my favourite magazine.”
Turning to her son, she went on: “I think it’s your favourite magazine.”

“Yeah, it probably is,” the youngster replied before his mum probed: “What are you reading about?”
Turning the magazine around to show the camera a double-page feature full of snaps of different birds, he answered: “Pictures, like birds. I think I saw one today actually.”
“There you go,” Owen smiled, adding: “It’s a great magazine. It really, really is.”
Her caption contained further details about the publication and what it aims to teach children.
The update follows the farmer’s confirmation that her son had transitioned from school to being educated at home, which she explained in a similar social media post.
On an Instagram Story recently, she told fans: “Sydney here is now homeschooled.
“So he splits his time between being outside on the farm and in the countryside and also doing his schoolwork because you’ve got a strict syllabus to follow.”
A post earlier in March also referenced the addition to her workload as she shared in a caption: “Also now home schooling a certain somebody too. It’s keeping me busy… if not out of mischief.”
The post sparked intrigued viewers to ask about who and why she was homeschooling, as well as a flood of supportive messages.
One penned: “Don’t underestimate your parenting, you do not appear to be ‘loosely’ parenting, more like fully immersed and doing a wonderful job raising and teaching all your kids as you do. a lesson in every action it seems to me. You are fab!”
Another asked: “Which child are you home schooling? It must be exhausting for you but also rewarding and a great place for the children to grow up in.”
“Homeschooling? Call it home educating that sounds more fun,” another suggested.
“Would love to be doing all of that except home schooling my idea of hell! Who has quit school?” someone else probed.
“Home schooling? That’s tough,” another stated, with someone else adding: “Wonder why Sids being home schooled.” (sic)
